Welcome to Paidion Nutrition
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Although you may be experiencing a rollercoaster ride between your emotions and changing hormones, it still is a very special time in a woman’s life. Whether it is your first, second or third pregnancy doesn’t really matter as each pregnancy is as unique as the baby growing inside you.
Pregnancy is a time when you need to take special care of yourself in order to protect your developing baby and to provide him with all the nutrients he needs to grow optimally. Paidion pregnancy guidelines will provide you with practical nutrition advice specific for each trimester.
As the first trimester is a time of intense and critical development (especially of your baby’s central nervous system, brain and heart) special attention is given to folate supplementation and neural tube defects, harmful food and substances that should be avoided, common pregnancy niggles such as morning sickness and food cravings, as well as general nutrition and exercise guidelines to improve your health throughout pregnancy.
During the second trimester your requirements start to increase to continue providing your developing baby with adequate nutrients. Paidion pregnancy guidelines therefore focus on correctly increasing your nutrient intake, optimal weight gain during pregnancy, iron and calcium requirements and supplementation, possible prevention of premature rupture of the amniotic sac membranes, as well as managing and relieving constipation.
The third trimester prepares both you and your developing baby for birth. Your body will start to adapt for the birthing process and your baby almost triples his weight as most of his nutrient stores are now formed. Paidion pregnancy guidelines therefore focus on the management of possible complications such as pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes, managing and relieving heartburn, possible methods to prevent food allergies especially if you have a family history of allergy, increasing your essential fatty acid intake to build your baby’s nutrient stores and fun ideas for labor snacks. As breastfeeding still remains the best feeding choice for a newborn baby advice is also given on early breastfeeding and colostrum, as well as general nutrition guidelines for the breastfeeding mom.
Paidion Nutrition aims to provide you with practical, up-to-date pregnancy advice to guide you through your pregnancy. Read more about our bi-weekly guidelines under "Nutrition and Pregnancy". |
